Student Rebels

So students are striking. The Sorbonne is closed. I haven’t been to classes in over a month. Basically, the students (among others) are striking against what Americans take as a reality – the possibility of being fired without compensation and without legal proceedings. It’s a little more complex than that, but that is about all I’m going to say. The parents of my fellow students have been panicking daily. There are evidently news sources which claim that the entire city of Paris is going up in smoke. Not so. True, one may encounter demonstrators or even rioters, but such happenings are truly condensed to a few spots throughout the city. I tried going to my class at the Sorbonne a couple weeks ago and I got shoved away from the gates. I figured that it’s not really my fight, so why fight to go to class. I think I took a nap after that particular episode.

My Parents aren’t too worried about the riots. I’m relatively happy about this. They don’t have CNN or FOX or CNBC or CBS to mess with their heads at night. Most of it is junk anyway. I’m of the anti-television mindset at the moment. In general, it’s a waste of time. Educational programming is one thing, VH1 is another. Don’t worry, you don’t have to agree with me. I won’t try to convert you to my way of thinking either. Just thought I’d let the world know my opinion on the subject.

I had a relatively nice evening tonight. Went out with some new friends for dinner and jazz in the latin quarter. I rather enjoyed myself. Low key and laid-back. Rock on.

I leave for Morocco tomorrow evening. Finally found a bookbag to borrow for the trip! It’s going to help out so much. My host mother is convinced I’m going to be robbed. She has very little confidence in me. I think the problem is that I remind her too much of herself. And so it goes.
