Being in Cambridge
Score! Free internet. I'm sitting in MIT's athletic building drinking a vanilla latte and reading 9 Parts of Desire. If you haven't read it yet, I absolutely recommend it. It may rock your world.
Why am I at MIT? Good question sparky. MIT's dancesport competition is this weekend - one of the largest dancesport competitions on the east coast. I've been looking forward to this one for months. In my current partnerless state, I had second thoughts about attending. But the lure of a spectacular weekend won out and here I am. I joined up with a youngster from Princeton named Westley. He's adorable (and I mean that in the nicest of ways). This is his second competition. He talks fast and has a desire to learn all things ballroom.
Besides doing a little dancing, I met up with my TFAS internship supervisor, Candice. She's going to Harvard law (and is even on law review - she's one smart cookie) and I figured that since I was in the neighborhood, I'd look her up. We went to a Harvard local favorite - a little hot chocolate shop. I thought that I was in the Paris! The shop had a euro feeling to it with mirrors on the walls and wood paneling. The hot chocolate was incredible, made with steamed milk and actual chocolate. Candice and I caught up, reminisced and relished the afternoon.
On other news, our hotel is called the Hotel at MIT. Not only are the walls covered in electronic gadgets, but the lamp shades are fashioned like notebooks and the blankets have physics equations written on them. In addition to the nerd-inspired room furnishing, the bed is probably one of the nicest beds I have ever rested upon. Hilton knows what's up. Good times.
My roomies, Mary, Amanda and Rachel, underneath the math blankets. We feel so smart sleeping there!
My Rachel. Doesn't her smile make you want to dance with her?!? The hair is very 1950s. It's well-hairsprayed. She hasn't taken it down all weekend.

Haha, those blankets are the best!
